What does a perfectly ordinary day in your life look like?
"I get up early with my two year old son. We have breakfast then prepare to go out for the morning. Every morning is dedicated to him. We meet friends, go to the park or go to the library. At lunch time we come home to eat and play for a while then my son has his three hour nap while I work. I use this time to edit photographs, pack prints and note any orders that were made overnight. The early evening is spent cooking my sons dinner, bathing him and putting him to bed, with help from his dad! Some evenings are work related but my fiance and I put aside a few nights to watch films and spend time together."

What time of year most inspires you?
"It has to be summer, I love the bright sunshine. Everything seems more colourful and the longer days are definitely good for photography."

What do you think of as comfort food?
"My comfort food is tea and toast, they go perfectly together. I am a foodie so anything goes."

If you could hop on a plane, without giving one thought to your budget, where would you go?

{Eyeshoot} 2011 Calendar Giveaway Winner

11.21.2010

Congratulations to Lauren... The winner of this week's giveaway! Thanks to all who entered and thank you especially to Sarah of 'Eyeshoot' for offering one of her lovely calendars!

Stay tuned on Monday for a BRAND NEW giveaway!

Giveaway {Eyeshoot Desktop Calendar}

11.15.2010

This week, Sarah, of 'Eyeshoot' is offering one photo calendar of the winner's choice (A value of $25 US + shipping)! I admire the breadth of Sarah's work... From the vibrant and colourful to the more subtle and subdued! Scroll down, below Sarah's interview, to find out how to win one of Sarah's 2011 desktop calendars!

Sarah has taken the time to answer a few questions:
What does a perfectly ordinary day in your life look like?
"My alarm goes off at a fairly lazy 8am, if it’s a gym day, I’m up and out and head to the gym to leap around, lift weights and do a bit of yoga for an hour or so. By the time I’ve got home, showered and had my porridge I can settle down to see what’s gone on in my Etsy shop overnight. If I’ve had sales, I’ll relist, contact my lovely customers, make the print/card/send artwork to the lab and generally get a great boost for the day - there’s nothing quite like making and posting something off to someone on the other side of the world who has found your work amongst the plethora of items out there in the wonderful world of internet shopping and spent some of their hard earned money on your goods. I’ll spend some time every day looking through my photo archive and rediscovering photos which I missed the first time round and try to bring them to life, not necessarily for selling but to keep learning new techniques and keep myself fresh. The rest of the day can just vanish in front of the computer doing this and that. I may pop out to buy food and spend some time planning a yummy meal for supper, if it’s Monday evening, I’ll venture out for my Iyengar Yoga class. The evenings are generally quiet with my partner Peter and I cooking, eating, drinking wine and watching the tv!"

What time of year most inspires you?
"I love spring and autumn, it’s the transitional seasons I like best for their drama and fabulous colours but I am also a great fan of snow and in our unusually snowy start to 2010 I had a ball photographing fantastic snowmen in Manchester and the beautiful snow covered trees."

What do you think of as comfort food?
"I love to cook and as a chef in a former life, I learned to make the best mashed potato ever and made massive pots of it every day with delicious additions like truffle oil, horseradish and grainy mustard, so that ranks pretty highly, but is a bit labour intensive for a quick fix. Home made hummus is easy, delicious and actually rather healthy. But apart from these somewhat wholesome treats, my ultimate and shameful comfort food is a whole pot of Nutella, eaten with a spoon, straight from the jar......"

If you could hop on a plane, without giving one thought to your budget, where would you go?
"India! A photographer's cliched answer perhaps, but I think that the visual onslaught would be fantastic. I have always been a bit nervous of the heat and the dread of becoming ill, but with unlimited budget, I’ll be able to travel safely and stay in good places, and travel all over the country."

What are five things you would like to do in the next five years?
"I’d love to make a good living selling my prints and my photography work.
I’d love to travel more.
I want to be able to do yoga handstands.
I want to sing in a choir.
I want to grow my own food."

This giveaway runs from November 15th to 21st at 7pm (EST)... The winner will be chosen and announced on Sunday, November 21st

"My day starts with doggy and husband kisses. Emails, cake bunting, trip to the post office, house chores. Evening walk with the dogs. My husband and I love love love good food, so usually I plan a nice big meal for when he comes back home from work. Every night we cuddle up on the couch and either watch a movie or a favorite tv series on dvd. I love the rhythm of an ordinary day! And I love my life."

Giveaway with {The Little Happyshop}

11.01.2010

I first came across 'The Little Happyshop' three years ago when I was looking for a first birthday card for Brennah... Since then, I check back often to see what Ruth is offering in her joyful little shop! For this week's giveaway, Ruth has offered $45 in Singapore dollars (that works out to nearly $35 US) to spend at 'The Little Happyshop'... There are so many whimsical and wonderful things to choose from... And just in time for holiday shopping! Head down the page to find out how to enter this beautiful giveaway!

Ruth has taken the time to answer a few questions:
What does a perfectly ordinary day in your life look like?
"Oh, I love ordinary days. My kids wake me up (they're early risers) and I get them ready for school -- Elliot's in kindergarten, Shanae's in pre-nursery. We walk to school, which is just a couple of minutes away from where we live. Then it's back home to sip on my latte and off to work! I reply emails, pack orders, and ooh-and-ahh at the new items on catalogues, and work out which are best to bring in for my store. I punch in figures, do some basic accounts for my gifts distribution company Happy Things. On a good day, I try to organise my physical inventory too for Happyshop, which is challenging b'cos I recently moved, and my home-office space's halved. I also work on a couple other things, like real estate, so I spend some time making calls and researching the market for my clients. Work consumes me till about mid-afternoon, when it's time to get the home ready for the family: house-cleaning and cooking! I walk the kids home sometimes; other times my husband picks them up en route home from work. Then it's playtime, dinner, cartoons, storytime and bedtime. I like to watch TV late into the night (Mondays and Tuesdays are my current favourites: CSI, Fringe, Mentalist; House re-runs all weekday midnights). If there isn't anything riveting on TV, I usually try get some more work done before calling it a day."

What time of year most inspires you?
"Christmas! Love love it. Creatively, there seems to be more inspiration everywhere: I love reading the magazines, adoring the fancy ads and commercials, and thinking up of fun things to do and daydreaming up my next pet project. On the family front, my husband's work is winding down (he's a teacher), and we spend more time with our kids outdoors: the zoo, the park, the beach ... I love the Christmas mood everywhere, and shopping gifts for the family. I get a lot more ideas for my work and my life, and feel recharged for the new year. Pity Christmas is just one day!"

What do you think of as comfort food?
"Ah without a doubt, all of my mom's cooking! She was a working mom, but she always made sure we had great tasty meals on the weekends and on special occasions. As a kid, I loved tagging along to the trips to the market and helping her cook in the kitchen. I have vivid memories of standing in a corner with all those bags of meat and stuff, waiting for her as she zipped quickly to the last stall to get the last thing on the list. I started asking from her recipes of my favourites after I got married eight years ago -- Asian dishes like stir-fried yellow noodles, stir-fried bee-hoon (rice noodle), claypot chicken rice, braised duck, popiah (a wrap filled with turnip, shrimp and other yummy stuff) and broiled chicken wings. The day my mother passed away (she had leukemia), I couldn't grapple with the fact that she was really gone, and I turned to cooking to remember her. For the two days, I cooked and brought my favourites to the funeral palour, to share a meal with my father. I choose to honor her this way because among others, this represented her love for me, and it's a way to relive the connection I have with her."

If you could hop on a plane, without giving one thought to your budget, where would you go?
"My first thought: Nagoya. It's the fourth-biggest city in Japan. I loved my trip to visit Shinzi Katoh sensei and his wonderful team last year, and wish my trip could have been longer! I basically zipped in and out of Nagoya in a hurry, cramped in as much as I could, but just simply didn't get to explore as much as I would have liked. I'd have loved to take time to sit at one of the pretty cafes that I saw in town, and maybe ask to view the nice garden at Shinzi Katoh's office, and spend some leisure time visiting the Nagoya Castle and museums and art galleries. I'll definitely bring my new Sony baby along this time and go snapping crazy at the sights and sounds. The food's great, weather's fine, and shopping is always rewarding. Just thinking about this makes me happy."

What are five things you would like to do in the next five years?
"Raise my children to be happy and confident people, expand my distribution business, play the violin again, start sewing again, and finally send my thousands of family photographs to be developed (printed) for my album collection."
This giveaway runs from November 1st to 7th at 7pm (EST)... The winner will be chosen and announced on Sunday, November 7th

10.25.2010

This week, I'm more than thrilled to welcome Jenn of 'Mignonne Handmade'... I think it's best to let Jenn describe her work in her own words: "Darling pieces hand made for you with love for a special day or everyday... Each flower is handmade by yours truly, hand cut, pressed with a vintage milliners iron and hand sewn together. I love to use lots of interesting bits of vintage this and that to add whimsy and magic, some of the vintage items used have been handpicked by me in the flea markets of France. I incorporate my own aesthetic when creating these flowers and as a result they are not "perfect" factory made looking pieces, they are all individual and have their own character and quirks, hope you like them too!"

Giveaway {La Marquise Des Anges}

10.18.2010

I am so very, very excited to introduce you to Sabine of 'La Marquise Des Anges', a lovely clothing and jewelry shop from France... I stumbled upon Sabine's shop some time ago... And quickly added her to my favourites... I adore the feminie appeal of her pieces... And between you and me, I'd like to purchase every last item in her shop! This week, Sabine has graciously offered $35 in store credit to spend in her shop! Thank you so much Sabine!

Sabine has taken the time to answer some questions:
What does a perfectly ordinary day in your life look like?
"it would be a day I managed to balance my indiepreneur life and my personal life. I generally wake up very early, starting the day with computer- related things, then I finish the order I have in progress, make custom orders, go the the post office, create new things, photoshoot ... each days are different. I am very happy when I have finished all the priority once my hubbie is back home..."

What time of year most inspires you?
"I must confess and I am in a perpetual inspiration -mood. I see inspiration in everything... However I do really really like the spring & fall seasons, I always regain creative spirit at this time of the year."

What do you think of as comfort food?
"I love cooking and a perfect day for me, is a day I had some time to spend in my kitchen cooking (not just putting ingredients together, I mean COOKING, a brand new recipe is even better) my overall favorite comfort food would be my all time favorite lasagna (fresh salmon, smoked salmon and leek fondue), my grand mother roasted chicken recipe (with sautées potatoes) and a fruit tart with a generous spoon of ice cream."

If you could hop on a plane, without giving one thought to your budget, where would you go?
"I would say a KENYA and TANZANIA travel combo for the discovery ... or the MALDIVES Islands for a peaceful, relaxing and dreamy vacation."

What are five things you would like to do in the next five years?
"I won't be very original but I feel blessed with what I have right now : a wonderful, adorable and supporting husband, a lovely home we are renovating to really make it "ours",  loving family, friends and pets and I love what I am doing. I love working for myself and I adore feeling dozen of (happyness & excitement) butterflies in my chest while creating new pieces. If it's as good as now, then whatever it is will be fine."
